Zur geflickten Trommel is an authentic German restaurant nestled in the historic heart of Regensburg at Gesandtenstraße 2. This charming venue masterfully combines traditional Bavarian flavors with a warm, medieval-inspired atmosphere that transports you back in time while offering a lively and convivial dining experience.
Renowned for its exquisite Flammkuchen—a thin-crust German-style pizza—the restaurant serves these crisp delicacies with a variety of fresh toppings, each bite bursting with a perfect balance of savory and tangy flavors. Guests consistently rave about the tender, smoky pork ribs, recommended as a must-try by both staff and patrons alike. Pair these with a frothy Schwarzbier vom Fass (draft black beer) or explore their impressive selection of meads, described by many as an adventure in itself. One cherished find is the 14.5% strength mead, which left visitors delightfully surprised and eager to savor more.
The dessert menu offers unexpected delights, including a flambéed yogurt-based sweet that effortlessly rounds off the meal with a warm, creamy finish. Notably, the attentive and knowledgeable service enhances every visit—waitresses take the time to explain different drink options and engage with guests, making the entire dining experience feel personalized and genuine.
Zur geflickten Trommel’s ambiance is equally captivating. Hidden down a quaint alleyway within a centuries-old building, the restaurant’s medieval-themed decor and carefully curated music create an immersive and cozy setting. The lively communal tables foster a social atmosphere, where sharing space with strangers often leads to new friendships, as patrons soak up the buzzing, convivial energy of a full house on busy weekend evenings.
It’s worth noting that while this gem offers a thoroughly authentic experience, English menus are not available and the staff’s English is limited. However, this adds to the authentic local feel and can easily be navigated with a little preparation. Also, be sure to bring cash, as card payments are not accepted.
Real customer impressions underscore the appeal of Zur geflickten Trommel: Matthias Klausing appreciated the vibrant, packed atmosphere and the courteous approach to shared seating; Max Wandt declared it “the best restaurant in town” for its unbeatable ribs and beers along with a friendy service; and Anastasía Pétrou called it the best food she had during a Bavarian trip, praising both the cuisine and the hospitality.
Whether you’re a local or a traveler seeking a genuine taste of Bavarian cuisine in a setting rich with history and cheer, Zur geflickten Trommel promises an unforgettable culinary journey that delights the senses and warms the soul.

The place was packed when I went there on Saturday evening. They set me at a table with another group, but the waitress asked them before politely if they would be ok with it. Later on another group joined the table, therefore this is standard and it also creates a very nice atmosphere. There are not a lot of free seats. I got a good explanations about the different drinks and got the "Götterdrunk" and the spare ribs. All was very nice and a decent portion! And they were quite quick as well! I would go there again.

The best restaurant in town!!! You shouldn’t miss the Ribs, plus a Schwarzbier vom Fass. Then, the Flambiert desert made by yogurt is another good surprise. Really enjoyed the best taste, atmosphere and the friendly service.

We had a really super long Saturday night here. We tried a lot of different meads until we found “ours”. They are all very good, but we loved the 14.5%. The Flammkuchen are all, again, very good, as were the Bauernsäufzer. And a big Thank you to Inga for taking care of us. But, don’t forget to bring cash, no card payment.

4/5 . The restaurant serves good German pizza (Flammkuchen) which is in thin crust and we ordered the pork rib that was recommended by the waitress. Unfortunately the menu is not in English and waitress does not speak English too, you may need to turn on your Google and start the searching before coming to the shop.

What a fantastic venue. Medieval themed bar and restaurant. Great themed music and decor. Just the right amount too. It's down an alleyway in a very old building. Lovely staff and very well priced beers and flammkuchen. Would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Regensburg.
